Shallow Draft BargesLD Ports & Logistics

uses advance modeling to synchronize shallow draft loading with tide.

LDPL Sana Fazel Delivery

LD Ports and logistics utilizes a new class of shallow draft barges for operation on a coal-fired power plant jetty or a loading berth for mining companies. We meet the challenges of designing a cost effective ideal small barge to suit your individual requirements which reduces the cost of investing in fixed infrastructure and dredging. Our shallow draft barges are designed to accommodate the environment and draft restrictions by minimizing the environment impact, improving the mining project NPV and limiting the CAPEX.

Shallow draft navigation and sediment management

LDPL uses advance modeling to synchronize shallow draft loading with the tide. Our barges will be loaded with the maximum cargo load and depart the berth at high tide in order to extract the benefits of the tide effect and maximize the intake.

Our loading equipment is also engineered and selected to maintain an even keel vessel and limit the trimming effect, especially on projects with a rocky bottom. The dimensions of a shallow draft barge are carefully determined to meet all stringent requirements of the project, including the tide, type of ground, loading equipment, bathymetry, metocean data.

These dedicated vessels will be unrivalled assets in the long term. Shallow draft vessels have optimized dimensions and wider beam which allow them to take up to three times the normal capacity of similar carriers at a same draft. The large beam of shallow draft barge is optimal in transshipment operations, allowing the crane operator to easily secure and position the grab into the barge cargo compartment.

The shallow draft barges are specially designed to combine sea-river navigation. The ability to load an upstream river loading point and sail through the river broadens the capabilities of these vessels immensely. These vessels distinguish themselves from the traditional sets of tugs and barges by providing the extra maneuverability for coping with river bends to deliver coal to a transshipment site.

Shallow draft barge can be fitted with an azimuthal thruster for an autonomous berthing and unberthing operations as well as for navigation into narrow river sections. The faster sailing speed enhances the capacity of the supply chain, increasing its reliability in the supply of goods.

FAZEL: Full Azimuthal Electric

FAZEL is engineered for a transshipment terminal in a river with a shallow water berth and a narrow port access

FAZELs were first developed for the coal transshipment terminal of the Hassyan Clean Coal Power plant project in Dubai.

FAZEL are shallow draft self-propelled barges specifically designed to meet the environment and natural restrictions of the Hassyan project. They are designed with 4 azimuthal thrusters (2 at the stern, 2 at the bow), are double-end and fitted with a 360° view bridge. This advanced diesel electric propulsion system offers FAZEL with moving capabilities equivalent to DP (Dynamic Positioning).

The berthing maneuver and approach speed is perfectly controlled and no tug assistance is required. Dust and coal particles will be contained inside the cargo compartment by the use of an atomized water screen, generated by fresh water nozzles. This protection curtain covers the full length and both sides of the coal compartment, ensuring an optimal and permanent protection to dust emissions during transshipment, transportation and unloading of barge.

13,000mt Deck Cargo Ship

The 13,000mt Deck Cargo Ship is designed to combine sea-river navigation, covering short river and long sea navigation distances

13,000mt vessels have been developed by LDPL for coal domestic transportation in Indonesia. Two generations of 13,000mt DCS have been implemented successfully in 2007 and 2013 for a total of 6 units. These vessels are used to load coal upstream a shallow water river at the mining site and deliver coal straight to a coal-fired power plant. The round trip distance is about 1,000NM. The challenge was to have a barge that is able to sail safely and accommodate the draft restriction of a river and be efficiently fueled for a fairly long navigation at sea (abt 800NM)

SWAT – Shallow Water Automotive Transporter

SWAT is designed to combined river-sea navigation, covering long river distances and short sea distances

SWATs are shallow draft barges engineered mainly for river navigation. They are also suitable for sea navigation and can be used to feed an off-shore transshipment terminal. They are narrowly designed to meet river navigation regulations and can cross other barges even in the narrowest river section. The cargo compartment is fully covered, providing appropriate shelter to commodities which are sensitive to rain issue, such as bauxite. They are highly maneuverable to cope with river bends.
